The BASIC Track
Surface
-
4' x 8' (48" x 96")
-
Constructed of tempered hardboard approximately 1/8" thick
-
Track will be secured directly to the floor
-
Painted with the colors described below
Colors
-
Background is painted white - high gloss enamel
-
Track line is painted black - flat/matte enamel
-
Starting line and distance dots are painted sky blue - satin enamel
Track Line
-
3/4" wide
-
All future references will be to the center of the line or arc and will not include the width of the line itself in measurements
-
Creates a track that makes a continuous loop
-
Never crosses over itself
-
Never closer than 9" to itself along any other segment of the track
-
Never closer than 6" to the edge of the surface (see Diagram 1 below)
Starting Line
-
Extremely thin and for reference only (see "Starting / Finishing" in the BASIC Race)
-
Perpendicular to the track line
-
Starts 2" from the center of the track line
-
Extends to 6" on either side of the track line
Design
-
Each track is designed on a grid which is not physically drawn on the surface consisting of fifty 9" squares in a 5 x 10 pattern
-
The grid itself is 45" x 90 inches which is centered on the 48" x 96" surface (see Diagram 1 below)
-
-
All fifty squares each contain either a straight line or an arc rotated in 90° increments and arranged to create a continuous track
-
All straight lines are centered on the sides of the square (see Diagram 2 below)
-
All arcs are 4 1/2" in radius with each end centered on the sides of the square (see Diagram 2 below)
-
-
An example track is shown on Diagram 3 below
-
This track is an example only and will not be an actual track used at the competition
-
Practice Tracks
-
For robot testing and sensor calibration only -- official tracks will not be practiced on (see picture below)
-
Surface is 4' x 4' (48" x 48") with the same construction as the official tracks (see above)
-
Designed on a grid which is not physically drawn on the surface consisting of twenty-five 9" squares in a 5 x 5 pattern centered on the surface
-
Only 24 of the 25 squares contain a straight line or an arc
-
Same parameters for the track line as that for the official tracks (see above)
-
-
No starting line
-
Use is first-come-first-served
-
Please limit yourself to 2 minutes if someone is waiting for a turn and then go to the back of the line
-
-
Two identical practice tracks will be available
-
May be used at any time before or during the official races
