The ADVANCED Track
Surface
-
4' x 8' (48" x 96")
-
Constructed of tempered hardboard approximately 1/8" thick
-
Track will be secured directly to the floor
-
Painted with the colors described below
Colors
-
Background is painted white - high gloss enamel
-
Track line is painted black - flat/matte enamel
-
Starting line and distance dots are painted sky blue - satin enamel
Track Line
-
3/4" wide
-
Creates a track that makes a continuous loop
-
Never closer than 6" to the edge of the surface (see Diagram 1 below)
Starting Line
-
Extremely thin and for reference only (see "Starting / Finishing" in the ADVANCED Race)
-
Perpendicular to the track line
-
Starts 2" from the center of the track line
-
Extends to 6" on either side of the track line
Design
-
Each track will be centered on the surface and contain curves of various radii, straight areas and "obstacles"
-
Each "obstacle" will have a straight line for a minimum of 9" before and after
-
Obstacle 1: 90° Corner - Diagram 2 below
-
The 90° corner is a sharp angle with no radius. There will be two on the track, one to the left and one to the right as the track is completed in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction
-
-
Obstacle 2: Intersection - Diagram 3 below
-
The intersection is where two straight lines cross each other perpendicularly. There will be one on the track which will be crossed twice as the track is completed
-
-
Obstacle 3: Gap - Diagram 4 below
-
The gap is a 3" space along a straight area of the track. There will be two gaps on the track
-
-
Obstacle 4: Close Parallel - Diagram 5 below
-
One area of the track will have a 9" section that runs parallel to another within 3" from the center of each line which leaves only 2 1/4" of white space. The robot will pass through the same obstacle twice, once on each parallel line
-
-
See "Scoring" in the ADVANCED Race for point values for each obstacle
Practice Tracks
-
For robot testing and sensor calibration only -- official tracks will not be practiced on
-
Surface is 4' x 4' (48" x 48") with the same construction as the official tracks (see above)
-
Will contain curves, straight areas, one 90° corner, an intersection and a gap
-
No starting line
-
Use is first-come-first-served
-
Please limit yourself to 2 minutes if someone is waiting for a turn and then go to the back of the line
-
-
Two identical practice tracks will be available
-
May be used at any time before or during the official races
